Frequently Asked Questions

Sovereign Cloud FAQs
1. What is Sovereign Cloud?
Sovereign cloud is a cloud computing architecture that’s designed and built to provide data access in compliance with local laws and regulations.

2. Why do we need Sovereign Cloud?
Sovereign cloud ensures all data including metadata stays on sovereign soil and prevents foreign access to data under all circumstances. It provides a trusted environment for storing and processing data that can never be transferred across borders and must remain under one jurisdiction. Sovereign cloud is about protecting and unlocking the value of critical data.

3. Who should be in Sovereign Cloud?
Sovereign Cloud is becoming increasingly important for all industries, as it offers a secure and reliable platform for businesses to store their data applications and services. With increasing number of cloud-based solutions and services, the sovereign cloud provides the assurance of data sovereignty, privacy and compliance with local, regional and global regulations. This is particularly important for industries that require a higher level of security such as financial services, healthcare and defense.

4. How does Sovereign Cloud help?
Sovereign clouds are architected and built to deliver security and data access that meets strict requirements of regulated industries and local jurisdiction laws on data privacy, access and control. They protect and unlock the value of critical data for both private and public sector organizations.

5. What is the difference between Cloud Act vs local Sovereignty?
The Cloud Act is a US federal law that allows government agencies to access data stored in the cloud without requiring the consent of the service provider. By contrast, local sovereignty is a concept that states that data stored in the cloud is subject to the laws of the country where it is stored. This means that, for example, if a company based in the US stores data in a cloud located in Germany, then the data will be subject to German law. Local sovereignty is important for companies that need to ensure that their data is secure and complies with any relevant local laws.

Data residency ensures that the data and the processing of that data — sits within an explicit geographical location. While data sovereignty describes the ability to maintain legal control and authority of the data within the defined nation’s jurisdictional boundaries. So, the question now is – how can companies take full control of their data?

Your business formula to data security and compliance requirements.
A sovereign cloud ensures data residency and sovereignty across geographical regions and in the cloud, preventing foreign access in a trusted environment. What’s else can your organization expect from having its data hosted in the sovereign cloud?
- Capable of adapting to evolving data-related laws and regulations
- Authority on access and flow of confidential and restricted data across borders
- Future-proof against cloud lock-in and shifting geopolitical situations
- Secured critical data and workloads in the cloud to protect your business
